Music for Autism was the recipient of a $20,000 grant from the Richard and Dorothy Rodgers Fund of the UJA -Federation. The grant was given by Linda Rodgers Emory, daughter of the late composer Richard Rodgers. This generous gift will allow M4A to expand its concerts through the Linda Rodgers Emory Concert Series to the greater New York area of Long Island (Nassau and Suffolk Counties), Westchester, Brooklyn and Staten Island in the winter of 2010 and early 2011.
M4A was introduced to Ms. Emory through Anita Altman, deputy managing director of Government Relations and External Affairs at UJA-Federation of New York. “We are thrilled to enable Music for Autism to bring its outstanding program to communities throughout the New York metropolitan area, so that individuals with autism and their families can experience the pleasure and joy of music close to home,” said Ms. Altman,”This is an extraordinary organization, whose mission we embrace, and with which we feel privileged to be associated.”
“We are grateful to Anita for her tremendous enthusiasm for M4A. We were honored to have her introduce Linda Rodgers to our work,” said Robert Accordino, co-founder and executive director of M4A “It has been extraordinary to get to know Linda and to see how excited she has been by M4A’s important mission. We are thrilled that this is just the beginning of our engagement with Linda to improve the quality of life of individuals with autism and their families.”
