John Arthur Greene, who is currently starring as Riff in Broadway’s West Side Story, took a different stage on May 8, when he performed at Citi Field in honor of the Ninth Annual Autism Awareness Day. Before the New York Mets took on the San Francisco Giants at Citi Field that afternoon, Greene belted classics from West Side Story and the National Anthem.
He was joined by the first Spotlight Artist for Music for Autism, Jade Simmons. Simmons is a Houston-based pianist who specializes in a mix of music from classics to cutting edge. Simmons has also been named one of Ebony Magazine’s Top 30 Leaders Under 30. Both musicians have been actively involved as performers at Music for Autism programs and functions.
Proceeds from Autism Awareness Day ticket sales went to autism schools, programs and agencies in the New York Tri-State region. Music for Autism was honored to be a special part of the event.
