Toys “R” Us Times Square New York City, was transformed on April 5, 2010, with the music, energy and generosity of Music for Autism (M4A) supporters at the organization’s first-ever Spring Gala. High above 42nd Street, in the Toys “R” Us sky box, Louise Pitt, chair of M4A’s development committee and member of the Board of Directors, described the positive impact the organization has had on her own life and the lives of hundreds of children with autism.
“Many lives have been inspired and changed by witnessing the dedication of Robert Accordino to this organization as well as from the people with autism and their families that are the focus of our concerts,” said Ms. Pitt. “We are grateful to all our volunteers who donate their time and skills in many U.S. cities, allowing us to expand and continue to service the families to whom we have become very connected.”
Music for Autism Executive Director Robert Accordino added his thanks to those in attendance and debuted M4A’s new promotional video which highlights children, families and musicians who have been touched by M4A’s work.
Broadway’s John Arthur Greene, currently starring as Riff in West Side Story, played smooth renditions of jazz classics and contemporary favorites, with the accompaniment of West Side Story violinist Phillip Payton and Jersey Boys pianist and M4A Board Member Deborah Hurwitz. Noah Ruttenberg was honored as the recipient of Music for Autism’s 2010 Service Award for the $15,000 he raised for M4A through donations he collected for his Bar Mitzvah.
“M4A is extremely grateful to Clay Creasey, Alia Creasey and Alex Barash for generously making the Toys “R” Us sky box available to Music for Autism, and to Louise Pitt and her development committee for their tireless work bringing the Spring Gala to fruition,”said Accordino.
