2017 Spotlight Artists: Kiku “Ninja Princess” Collins and David Gibson

Music for Autism is so pleased to announce our 2017 Spotlight Artists: Kiku “Ninja Princess” Collins and David Gibson. The Spotlight Artist distinction is Music for Autism’s recognition of not just exceptional musicianship but also dedicated service to those with autism and their families.

“With so much compassion, love, enthusiasm, grace and heart, Kiku and David have shared their talents with the families we serve. This award is a long overdue recognition of their profound humanity and many contributions to Music for Autism”, stated Music for Autism founder, Dr. Robert Accordino. “David plays with a velvety sound and impeccable style that resonates with our audiences” noted Ryan Gardner, Artist Coordinator for Los Angeles and New York. Speaking of Kiku, New York Concert Coordinator Linda Blacken says that she “personifies perseverance and strength in the face of adversity and is a proponent of empowering girls and women to realize their potential, both in the music industry and in life.”

Kiku and David have mesmerized Music for Autism audiences with their talent, spunk, and creativity since the early days of the organization. They have watched us grow and have stood by us every step of the way. We are beyond honored to include them amongst our esteemed and accomplished Spotlight Artists and even more so, as integral parts of our Music for Autism family.

Music for Autism is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to enhancing quality of life and raising public awareness through free, autism-friendly, interactive concerts developed specifically for individuals with autism and their families. Music for Autism began the Spotlight Artist program in 2009 to recognize extraordinarily talented and gifted artists who have made a significant commitment to supporting the work of M4A and aiding in the charity’s expansion to additional US cities. Our first Spotlight Artist was pianist Jade Simmons; the 2010 artist was trumpeter Ryan Gardner; in 2011, we named violinist Suzy Perelman; in 2012, we chose a woodwind quintet, WindSync; in 2013 and 2014 Broadway performers John Arthur Greene and Sonny Paladino were selected; in 2015 we honored writer and performer Joe Iconis and finally last year the fabulous Marisa Kennedy was our 2016 Spotlight Artist.
